Home > WelcomeWelcome Message

I would like to welcome all fellow chemists and participants to
the 124th General Meeting of the Korean Chemical Society (KCS) at Changwon Convention Center.

The KCS fall meetings have been held in various cities in Korea to promote the chemistry to the people nearby. As a part of our effort for chemistry popularization, KCS has promoted various programs to emphasize the importance and benefit of chemistry in our daily life. Especially, this year is so special as the centennial anniversary of IUPAC and 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. Therefore, we have focused on the promotion of chemistry throughout the whole year of 2019.

This fall meeting will be one of the biggest events to celebrate in this special year of 2019. This celebration will be high-lightened by the plenary lecture of Prof. John F. Hartwig of the University of California, Berkeley, USA with the title “Selective, Catalytic Functionalization of C-H Bonds.” In addition, Prof. Jaebum Choo of Chung-Ang University will deliver a lecture “Highly sensitive in vitro diagnostics using SERS-based microdevices: current status & future” with the Taikyue Ree Academic Award. We also have many symposiums and oral presentations in various disciplines from KCS members not only in academia and research institutes but also in many industries. The richness of these chemistry activities will be fruitful to all participants.

I wish all of you to enjoy this 124th KCS meeting.

Hyun-Joon Ha

President of the Korean Chemical Society
