It is my great pleasure to welcome all fellow chemists and participants to the 129th General Meeting of the Korean Chemical Society (KCS).

This KCS meeting will be held in person for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak; in addition, it will take place at the International Convention Center on Jeju Island, one of the most beautiful places in Korea. I hope that every participant will enjoy fruitful academic and social interactions at this special KCS meeting.

As the plenary lecturer, we have invited Professor Bert Meijer at the Eindhoven University of Technology, who has made a great contribution to the synthesis of supramolecular systems. Professor Bert Meijer is a distinguished Professor at Institute of Complex Molecular Systems of the Eindhoven University. He was appointed lifetime Academy Professor by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2014. He will give a lecture on Functional Supramolecular Systems and Materials.

I am also pleased to announce that Professor Jeunghee Park at Korea University is this year’s winner of the KCS Academic Excellence Award, our most prestigious annual award. Professor Park will give a special lecture entitled “Two-Dimensional Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Alloy Nanosheets to Enhance Electrocatalytic Performance” to celebrate her academic achievement.

We have additionally prepared number of exciting academic and social activities for scholars from across all branches of chemistry, which include the two-day poster sessions and more than 30 exhibition events from private companies and the Ministry of Science and ICT of Korean Government. It is my sincere hope that all participants get the most out of these events. I am also happy to announce that we have doubled the number of poster awards for this KCS meeting. So good luck to all the poster presenters!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dongwoo Fine-Chem, who has been a sponsor of the KCS for 11 years. I would also like to thank Shimadzu Scientific Korea and the Jeju Convention Bureaus for their financial support.

Finally, I extend my gratitude to all KCS members and participants. I hope you all have great KCS meeting on Jeju Island!
